Martinmas and Veterans' Day

Today we enjoy the perfect pairing of saecular and religious feasts!  St. Martin, the patron saint of soldiers (among a kazillion other things!) is the idea patron for our highly deserving veterans.  Dear St. Martin of Tours, please pray for all of our soldiers, deployed, at home stations, retired, and deceased.  They need your intercession now more than ever!

The Feast of St. Martin of Tours

The life story of this soldier saint can be found here.
Many beautiful images of St. Martin can be found here.
Catholic Culture and Fisheaters both have a slew of information on the feast and its traditions.
And, as always, you can find wonderful feasting ideas for the day at Catholic Cuisine.
You can listen to Iste Confessor, a hymn composed in honor of St. Martin over at utube.
And there's another great coloring page for the day at Waltzing Matilda.

Today is a good day to make charitable donations to the poor. In honor of St. Martin, finding and donating our good unused coats, hats, gloves, and scarves is especially fitting!
Veterans' Day

In charity today, we also remember our veterans of war, living and dead.

Here is a site dedicated to prayers just for veterans.
To send Bp. Fulton J. Sheen's Wartime Prayer book to our soldiers, go here.
To learn about Ranger Rosaries, go here, and to make and send some yourself, click here.

*In case you might have recognized it, this is indeed, a repost from last year. &:o)
