A Different Kind of Meme

A week or two ago I was tagged for this fascinatingly different meme by Esther at A Catholic Mom in Hawaii, but I got distracted ( being out of town trying to sell a house) and forgot to post my results from it... (Mind like a seive, yep.) Then Nutmeg over at Life in a Nutshell jogged my memory by tagging me for it. So, I did it twice.

Here are the instructions:

1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.

I was staying at my in-law's under the shadow of my beautiful San Juan Mountains when I got tagged for this the first time. I didn't have anything but my purse right there at the time, and there was one book in it, My Sunday Missal Explained, as presented by the US Army. This is the little missal I have kept in my purse since I was a teenager, a duplicate of the one my Dad, a retired Navy man has used since he was a young man.

The day I got this tag was Septuagesima Sunday, and...

you're not gonna believe it...

Page 123 is the first page of the Mass of that day! Septuagesima Sunday! Honest to Goodness!

Here are the sentences (taken from the Mass Theme Explained, which precedes the prayers of the day):

It is a "race" with death for the "prize" of life etenal. Only "one receives the prize" by His own right, Christ! But, remember, He still runs in us if we do not lag in this "race," as did Israel under "Moses" (Epistle).

Today I'm back at home and the book that happens to be on the computer desk for some odd reason is: How To Get Along With Difficult People, by Florence Littauer. Page 123, sentences 5 and 6 are:

Difficult people are always hurting inside, but they cover it up by being rude, defensive, or withdrawn. Don't accept them at face value, but instead be the one who takes the time to show genuine concern.

(Sentence 7 makes no sense because it's a question beginning another subsection of the chapter, so I won't put that one here...)

Both useful exerpts! What an interesting meme!

I think this one has had the time to go the rounds pretty much, so I'm going to beg out on tagging my five people. But, please, anyone who hasn't had the chance to do this ~ it's kinda fun! Consider yourself tagged!

I have enjoyed watching this meme make the rounds, too! I find it fascinating to "read" with people as they open to page 123, etc.
Have a blessed day!

I haven't done this (at one point, though, just out of curiosity, I did pick up the nearest book, which happened to be my Bible. Page 123 is in the heart of Numbers. Not to disparage the Bible or anything, but trust me, there was nothing there too inspirational. Unless you like enumerating.)

I've been meaning to tell you that I've really enjoyed your art posts. Very interesting choices (Jackson Pollack makes me laugh, but his work does make the rounds of preschool programs, since 3 year olds have no problem imitating his style. Which, of course, says a lot.)

Anyway, I just wanted to poke my head in to let you know I've been in & out and enjoying your site, as always! Sorry my comment's not connected with the right posts, though! :)

Warmly,
Eileen
