“The road to wisdom?
Well, it’s plain and simple to express:
Err and err again, but less and less and less.”
Err and err again, but less and less and less.”
~ Piet Hein
Made some mac and cheese for dinner tonight. Burned the cheese sauce. (Wanted to scream, but bit my tongue, and blamed myself for playing on the computer and not staying focused on dinner...)
Emptied salvagable cheese into another pot, added more cheese to it, and tried again.
Thought I had a minute, so checked something I was researching on the 'puter (dummy that I am), and, yes, you guessed it: I burned that batch. (Wanted to scream, but just grumbled -- under my breath. Again, nobody to blame but myself.)
Started again. Didn't leave the stove, stirred the whole time.
Went to dump the already boiled and drained elbow macaroni into the cheese sauce, but it had been cooling in the collander so long that it came out in one big, huge collander-shaped lump, half of which fell into the pot, a quarter of which fell all over the stovetop, the rest of which fell all over the floor. (AGH! I screamed -- mentally.)
Saved the noodles from the stovetop, stirred it all up together into the cheese sauce.
Cut up a cucumber from the garden and put it on the table with the macaroni and cheese and the end of a bottle of Sprite.
The kids were gracious; they said it was pretty good mac and cheese.
Little do they know.
(I may go out on the prairie sometime in the middle of the night tonight and let that scream out...)
How cute and haven't we all done that? Much as I love to cook, there have been times when everything seemed to go haywire.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, just the other day I was making kotleti and I spilled some sauce, then spilled some more, let some of it cook in the other pan to the point where it glued itself to the bottom...it was a frustrating comedy of errors!
Now you have me hungry for mac and cheese...so glad to hear you didn't scoop the mac off the floor and put it in!
blessings and hugs,
marcy
p.s. LOVE than cute little poem and shared it with Michael.
p.s.s. Would the Von Trapp family be proud? Does this mean that the "hills will be alive with the sound of music aka screaming"?
ReplyDeleteI despise cooking!
ReplyDeletemy friend wants some minicomputer of which I've never heard "for the kitchen" all I can imagine is burned meals and sauce in the keys......
ReplyDeletebut maybe it's just me??
You're still a good mom and a good cook! It's okay that mac and cheese didn't hold your attention, we all get bored in the kitchen. Oh wait, I don't, I'm not a cook...
ReplyDeleteHaha. I've been there too with mac and cheese.
