November
by John Updike The stripped and shapely Maple grievesThe ghosts of herDeparted leaves. The ground is hard,As hard as stone. The year is old,The birds are flown.
And yet the world,In its distress,Displays a certainLoveliness---
LOL -- it's that "certain loveliness" that I never feel in November!
ReplyDelete~gg~ Admittedly, ya gotta look HARD!
ReplyDeleteThe bare branches of trees have been reminders to me during the cold of winter of Nature's witness in praise of the Almighty. Those branches are lifted high toward heaven and with the added hope that "springs eternal" in us all we too can add our praise to theirs. (Really a very bad pun!) There really is beauty in those empty branches when I look at them this way.
ReplyDelete~gg~ Too true! I love the pun, and the thought, GrandmaK!
