Upon Turning 45

As Summer into Autumn slips
 by Emily Dickinson
.
As Summer into Autumn slips
And yet we sooner say
"The Summer" than "the Autumn," lest
We turn the sun away,
.
And almost count it an Affront
The presence to concede
Of one however lovely, not
The one that we have loved --
.
So we evade the charge of Years
On one attempting shy
The Circumvention of the Shaft
Of Life's Declivity.

  2. Hi Lisa,
I take it that you are having a birthday . Happy Birthday to you than and look and all that you have accomplished! The poem you chose was lovely!
Just so you now, I always thought that my forties would be my best decade but it turns out that my fifties have been better so far. So I am now looking forward to the sixties etc......
Hope you had a good day!
    Love Di
