1/2 block of cream cheese
1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of cinnamon mixed together
1/2 stick of melted butter
A can of canned biscuits
Cut up cream cheese into several top-of-your-thumb size pieces.
Put a 1/2 cup of sugar and half cup of cinnamon and mix them together in the bowl.
Melt the butter in a bowl in the microwave.
Then get out the canned biscuits (Make sure you have the table covered with something or you'll make it a mess)
Twist the canned biscuit can 'til it pops open.
Separate out all the pieces of dough.
Get a piece of the cream cheese and wrap it up in one of the pieces of canned biscuit dough.
Wrap it up and press the ends together so that it won't come open after baking it. (I know this from experience).
It should look like a little ball.
Do this with all the pieces of dough.
Next you roll the little balls in the melted butter and then dab it on the side of the bowl to make sure it's not too drippy.
Then roll the biscuit in the cinnammon-sugar.
Arrange the monkey bread pieces in a small pan, just like you would for biscuits and follow the directions on the biscuit wrapper to bake them.
Then when they're done to add extra flavor you can put some icing on them.
Here's how to make the icing:
1 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
About 1 Tbs milk
Put 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar together with the milk in a bowl.
Mix well till it looks like icing.
For a little extra flavor, put in a tsp or two of some lemon almond or vanilla extract.
Then stir until all the lumps are smoothed out.
When the monkey bread is out put on the icing and enjoy!
Yum!
I'm going to try to have the girls write out a recipe every week. We want to work some on our cooking skills, and having them write the recipes out in their own words (while still being accurate!) gives us some practical writing practice, too. It also gives us a chance to share some of our favorite dishes!
What an excellent idea. My mother had us all cooking by the time we were in 4th grade. Determined that we should be able take care of ourselves when we grew up, we each had our night to cook dinner for the family...That was the night we didn't have to help with the dishes. We were also very careful not to make too big a mess as we knew it would be our turn for dishes the next day. I'm really looking forward to the next recipe. Thank you! Cathy
ReplyDeleteThis looks really good! I do one similar, except I use apples and not cream cheese. You can also do parmesan cheese and some italian seasoing to make some yummy bread too!
ReplyDeleteCathy ~ That's sorta been our method, on and off over the years, with more or less success, depending on the enthusiasm of the participants. My sons can all cook quite well, though, and my third son, Jon, is almost a gourmet. Theresa and Cathy (9&7) are coming right along, though!
ReplyDeleteFuzzy ~ Hi! Thanks. It's too yummy, but I love the idea of trying apples! We've stuffed with meat and cheese and love that, too, but haven't really done an Italian theme. We'll definitely try that. &:o)
